Lawn Maintenance In Fall shouldn't be a daunting
task.
The callous conditions of winter can leave your lawn looking dreadful. You
should be prepared to do some regular lwan maintenace during fall in
order to protect and prepare your lawn for the winter season.
Raking the leaves every couple of days (as they are falling off the trees) has
the dual benefit of exposing the grass to as much sunshine as possible and also
aerating the soil by the action of the raking. Although it's been proven
that the rotting leaves add nutrients to the soil, they also prevent sunshine from reaching the grass and this can cause the grass to die off before the winter snow arrive.
Fertilizing your lawn before the cold weather should also be part of lawn
maintenance in fall. Do this by using a natural fertilizer like compost (which
has proven to be the best fertilizer). Compost can easily be made from kitchen
scraps and garden cuttings as well as the leaves that you are raking.

Cutting your lawn once every three to four weeks in fall should be sufficient.
Always remember to spread a thin layer of compost over the soil, the compost
will fertilize the soil and also provide a layer of mulch to help keep the soil
moist. When you and your lawn alike are facing problems with weeds, fall is the
best time to treat it as well as other lawn problems like thatch. Treat it by applying
herbicides to weeds as needed.
